Windows is so slow — we're all very
familiar with this! We want to speed up Windows because starting up
Windows 95, 98 etc itself can be slow and if you are in that situation
then you'll find everything else that loads up in Windows is also that
much slower. If you feel that things never seemed to be that bad before
then you're not imagining things. There are several reasons why this
should be so - the session and the cumulative effects.
What happens? — during
any session (any time that you switch on your PC), Windows uses up some
of your RAM. In fact unless you're blessed with lots of RAM, you'll
quite often find that most of your RAM is greedily swallowed
by Windows leaving very little for any applications that run! You didn't
know that? If you buy PC Speed Tweaks you'll
get amongst the utilities, a RAM manager. It's interesting to see how
much RAM is used and not released when any Windows application finishes.
I was astonished to find that even on our 128Meg RAM laptop, most of
the RAM disappeared very quickly, slowing the whole computer down severely.
The RAM manager by the way stops all that happening and manages to speed
up windows considerably.
What about the cumulative effects?
— These are caused by the increasing number of programs, utilities and
other stuff we've installed since getting the PC. Some of them create
junk files, but more importantly they can add additional load to the
system thus slowing it down even more. PC Speed
Tweaks will deal with all these issues and speed up windows to the
level you once enjoyed or even better. Yes, it is possible since
Windows does not come optimised even when new. Try this out for yourselves.
